UEFA have removed Czech club MFK Karviná from participation in the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League (UEL) over its involvement in the match scandal that saw more than 50 people arrested by Czech police in March. UEFA said that its Appeals Body had ruled “MFK Karviná ineligible to participate in the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League for failing to fulfil the admission criterion required by Article 4.01(g) of the Regulations of the 2026/27 UEFA Europa League, i.e. for being directly and/or indirectly involved in activity aimed at arranging or influencing the outcome of matches at national level.” The Czech arrests in March targeted individuals suspected of match-fixing and bribery activity linked to betting. Prosecutors are calling for jail sentences of nine to 14 years for the individuals arrested, with the cases being classified as organised crime group activity that under Czech law receives harsher sentencing. Belgium manager Rudi Garcia has rebuked allegations of racism following a controversial analysis of Belgium’s 3-2 win against Senegal at the World Cup.  Following the final whistle, Garcia had said that “we know those teams…Towards the end of the match they lose their tactical structure.” His words prompted speculation and criticism that his remarks were aimed at African nations and as such were racist. Championship club Middlesbrough have named UK online bookmaker Midnite as their new principal partner, replacing Unibet as the club’s front-of-shirt sponsor for the 2026/27 campaign. The agreement comes during Middlesbrough’s 150th anniversary season and further strengthens Midnite’s rapidly accelerating presence in the front-of-shirt scene in the Championship.  It is the third shirt sponsorship agreed with a Championship club in the space of little more than a month. The 23-year-old, who resides in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, was sentenced for possession of a firearm by an alien admitted to the United States under a non-immigrant visa.  The decision was announced by U.S. Attorney Kurt L. Wall in a statement issued by the Department of Justice on June 30, 2026. Upon completing his prison sentence, the Nigerian sprinter will be deported from the United States. According to court documents, Oghenebrume admitted during a plea agreement that he possessed a Glock 43X 9mm pistol on February 7, 2025, despite being in the United States on an F-1 student visa.
