The dissolution, which takes effect from July 31, 2026, was announced in a circular signed by the Acting Director of Sports, Oluseyi Sonde.  The directive stated that all existing sports associations in the state stand dissolved, with the exception of the Basketball and Football Associations, whose executives will remain in office pending the conclusion of their respective national federation elections.
