Team Nigeria's remarkable outing at the 23rd Commonwealth Games in Glasgow received another major boost on Friday night as Ezekiel Nathaniel powered to victory in the men's 400m hurdles, claiming the country's nineth gold medal of the Games and the second athletics gold.

Nathaniel produced a commanding performance at Scotstoun Stadium, crossing the finish line in a brilliant 48.47 seconds to finish ahead of England's Jake Minshull, who took silver in 48.99 seconds, while Assinie Wilson claimed the bronze medal in 49.22 seconds.

The Nigerian star controlled the race from the closing stages, displaying his trademark speed and composure over the barriers to secure the biggest international title of his career.

His triumph adds to Team Nigeria's growing medal haul in Glasgow and marks the country's second athletics gold after an impressive campaign by the track and field team.

Nathaniel's victory also underlines Nigeria's continued strength in the one-lap hurdles, with the 400m hurdler delivering when it mattered most against a highly competitive field.

The gold medal further improved Team Nigeria's performance at the Games, with the athletics squad continuing to contribute significantly to the nation's success on the medal table.

With more events still to come, Team Nigeria will be hoping to build on the momentum as they chase additional medals before the curtain falls on the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
