Cameroon casts wider net for next generation as Eto’o’s dual-national strategy takes shape

Cameroon are stepping up efforts to secure the next generation of talent, with a group of promising youngsters from European academies joining the country’s U17 setup for a training camp in Noisy-le-Grand, France.

The move reflects the vision of Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto'o to identify and attract talented players eligible to represent the Indomitable Lions at youth level.

The latest camp features 25 players drawn from clubs and academies across France, Germany, England, Italy and Spain, giving Cameroon an opportunity to assess a wider pool of talent with potential to contribute to the national teams in the years ahead.

Among the goalkeepers are Festus Chelsea of SC Charleroi and Poirier Elangue of Brookehouse, while the defensive group includes players from clubs such as USL Dunkerque, FC Lorient, FC Nantes, Union Berlin, US Orléans and Stockport County.

The midfield also boasts notable academy representation, with Massek Mathis of Bayer Leverkusen, Hentcho Aviel of Bayern Munich, Akame Kenzy of St. Pauli and Ndzana Yann of LOSC Lille included in the squad.

Up front, Cameroon have called up Eone Emmanuel of Lazio Rome, Tallengonmazou of Salamanca CF, Togolo Amougou of Rayo Vallecano, Tomak Jason of Nottingham Forest and Kameni Ngomsi of Shrewsbury Town.

The training camp provides the young players with an opportunity to make an impression within the Cameroon setup while allowing the federation to monitor players developing outside the country's domestic football system.

This approach represents a deliberate attempt to broaden the talent pool available to the national teams and establish relationships with promising players at an early stage of their development.

With several of the youngsters already attached to respected European academies, the camp could become an important early step in shaping the next generation of the Indomitable Lions.
