Yaya Touré makes history as Slovan Bratislava reach Champions League group phase

Côte d'Ivoire and African legend Yaya Touré has etched his name into African football history after guiding Slovan Bratislava through the UEFA Champions League qualifying play-offs and into the league phase of the competition.

Touré becomes the first African coach to successfully navigate the Champions League play-offs and lead a European club into the competition’s league phase.

The former Manchester City midfield maestro, who took charge of the Slovakian champions, has now added another remarkable milestone to an illustrious football career that includes winning the UEFA Champions League as a player with Barcelona.

His achievement with Slovan Bratislava marks a significant breakthrough for African coaches on the European stage and further strengthens Touré’s growing reputation in management.

From dominating midfield as one of Africa’s greatest players to making history from the dugout, Touré continues to break new ground in European football.
