Newcastle bring in Nico Gonzalez to bolster midfield

Newcastle United have completed the signing of Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City on a long-term contract, the Premier League clubs announced on Wednesday.

Although the two clubs did not disclose the financial terms of the transfer, British media reports put the value of the deal at approximately £52 million ($70.65 million).

Gonzalez, 24, leaves City after just over a year at the club, having joined from Portuguese side Porto last year. The Barcelona academy graduate made 59 appearances for the Premier League champions, scoring four goals during his spell.

His arrival at St James' Park represents a significant addition to a Newcastle midfield that has undergone considerable change in recent transfer windows.

The Spaniard joins the squad as Newcastle reshapes its midfield following the departures of key figures, including Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.
