Manchester United sign Cameroon midfielder Carlos Baleba from Brighton

Manchester United have completed the signing of Carlos Baleba from Brighton & Hove Albion, with the Cameroon international agreeing a contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until 2031.

The Premier League club confirmed the deal on Tuesday, adding that the agreement includes an option to extend the midfielder's stay by another year.

United did not disclose the transfer fee, but a source close to the club said the 22-year-old was signed for an initial £60 million ($81.80 million), with additional payments potentially taking the overall value of the deal higher.

Baleba arrives at United despite sustaining an ankle ligament injury during pre-season. However, reports in the British media suggest the problem is not considered serious enough to sideline him for a prolonged period.

The midfielder joined Brighton from French club Lille in 2023 and quickly established himself as an important part of the Seagulls' midfield.

During his three seasons at Brighton, Baleba made 112 appearances across all competitions, showcasing his physical strength, ball-winning ability and composure in possession.

He featured 31 times in the Premier League last season, although his campaign was interrupted by international duty with Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations.
