Former Bayern stars join investment group taking majority stake in Estrela da Amadora
Former Bayern Munich stars Thomas Mueller, Mats Hummels, Yann Sommer and Lucas Hernandez have joined an international investment consortium that has acquired a controlling interest in Portuguese top-flight club Estrela da Amadora.
The consortium, led by ADvantage and LEAD and backed by the KI Group, has completed the purchase of 90% of the share capital of Estrela's SAD, the club confirmed on Tuesday.
The new ownership structure brings together investors from the worlds of sport, finance and technology, alongside several prominent figures from international football.
Mueller and Hummels, both members of Germany's 2014 World Cup-winning squad, are among the former Bayern players involved in the project. They are joined by former Bayern goalkeeper Sommer and France international Hernandez, who also previously represented the Bundesliga giants.
Portuguese newspaper A Bola reported that the consortium paid €40 million ($46.65 million) for its majority stake in the Lisbon-based club.
Estrela da Amadora were established in 2020 following the revival of the club's identity after the original Estrela da Amadora was dissolved in 2011 because of financial difficulties.
The club secured promotion to Portugal's top division in 2023 and finished 15th in the Primeira Liga last season.
