Igoche Mark mourns mother, Mrs. Oyiba Veronica Mark

The Nigerian basketball community has rallied around prominent basketball promoter and founder of the Mark D'Ball initiative, Igoche Mark, following the death of his mother, Mrs. Oyiba Veronica Mark.

Mrs. Mark died peacefully on Monday, June 29, 2026, according to a statement released by the family.

Announcing her death with deep emotion, the family said they accepted the loss with faith and submission to the will of God.

"With deep sorrow but total submission to the will of Almighty God, the family of Mrs. Oyiba Veronica Mark announces the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend," the statement read.

The family paid glowing tribute to the late matriarch, describing her as a woman whose life was defined by faith, love, strength, and compassion. 

They noted that her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering commitment to her family and community touched countless lives and would remain her enduring legacy.

"Though her departure leaves a great void in our hearts, we are comforted by the beautiful memories she leaves behind and by the assurance that she now rests in eternal peace," the statement added.

Igoche Mark is widely respected in Nigerian basketball for establishing the Mark D'Ball initiative, a grassroots development programme that has played a significant role in discovering and nurturing young basketball talents across the country.

Since news of Mrs. Mark's death became public, messages of condolence have continued to pour in from members of the basketball fraternity, friends, and associates, offering prayers and support to the Mark family during this difficult time.

The family said funeral arrangements will be announced in due course as they continue to draw strength from their faith and the cherished memories of the late Mrs. Oyiba Veronica Mark.
