Volleyball Fever Hits Abuja as National Premier League Serves Off June 13

The stage is set for another thrilling chapter in Nigerian volleyball as the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) prepares to serve off the first phase of the 2026 National Premier Volleyball League in Abuja.

The country's elite volleyball clubs will converge on the Indoor Sports Hall of Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja, from June 13 to 28, battling for supremacy in Nigeria's top-flight volleyball competition.

The championship, sponsored by the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, will feature both men's and women's teams in what promises to be a highly competitive and entertaining tournament.

As the flagship domestic volleyball competition in the country, the National Premier Volleyball League has continued to play a crucial role in talent discovery, athlete development and the promotion of volleyball excellence across Nigeria. 

The competition is expected to attract some of the nation's finest players, coaches, technical officials and volleyball stakeholders.

Speaking ahead of the tournament, NVBF President, Engineer Nimrod Musa, reiterated the federation's commitment to strengthening the domestic volleyball structure and creating opportunities for athletes to develop and compete at higher levels.

According to Musa, the federation remains focused on raising the standard of competition while providing a pathway for talented players to progress to continental and international competitions.

"The National Premier Volleyball League remains a vital platform for the growth of volleyball in Nigeria. Our objective is to continue improving the league structure, enhance competitiveness and create opportunities for our athletes to excel beyond our borders," he said.

The commencement of the Premier League follows the successful conclusion of the Division One and Division Two League competitions, reflecting the federation's sustained efforts to expand the reach and development of volleyball nationwide.

With teams eager to make an early statement in the title race, fans can expect two weeks of exciting action, intense rivalries and top-quality performances on the court.

The federation has called on government agencies, corporate organizations, media practitioners, sports enthusiasts and other stakeholders to support the championship and contribute to the continued growth of the sport.

As the countdown to the opening serve begins, attention now turns to Abuja, where Nigeria's volleyball stars will be looking to showcase their talent and stake their claim for domestic glory in one of the country's most prestigious volleyball competitions.
