The Ghanaian leg of the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp concluded successfully in Accra on Sunday after several days of intensive training and mentorship for young basketball talents.
About 90 children drawn from different schools participated in the programme, which continues to grow as one of the leading youth basketball development initiatives on the continent.
Retired Colonel Sam Ahmedu, who coordinated the camp, expressed satisfaction with the turnout and praised the support received from the Ghana Basketball Association.
According to him, the camp has continued to create opportunities for young players both on and off the court, noting that two participants from previous Ghana editions are currently studying scholarships in the United States.
The Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp, which has now been staged in more than seven countries across Africa and the USA, focuses on combining sports and education to build a lasting future for underprivileged children.
President of the Ghana Basketball Association, Alex Kukula, described the initiative as a major pillar of the association’s four-year basketball development programme.
Kukula explained that the association intends to place greater attention on women’s basketball, which he said urgently needs revitalisation and investment.
He also disclosed that Ghana currently has 40 clubs competing across its three-tier basketball league structure, with the domestic season running from late March to October annually.
The camp continues to highlight the growing impact of grassroots basketball development in Africa.
Beyond improving skills, such programmes are helping to create educational opportunities, expose young players to international pathways and strengthen the foundation of basketball across the continent.
By taking the camp to multiple African countries and the United States, organisers have also encouraged cultural exchange, talent discovery and stronger connections between African basketball communities and global development systems.
With increasing participation and success stories emerging from previous editions, the Jordan Nwora Basketball Camp is gradually becoming an important platform for nurturing the next generation of African basketball stars.
