Nigeria’s Super Eagles delivered an impressive performance in Antalya on Friday, edging Iran 2-1 in a lively international friendly that showcased both attacking flair and defensive grit under new boss Eric Chelle.

From the first whistle at Corendon Airlines Park, the three-time African champions meant business.

Just six minutes in, Samuel Chukwueze sliced open Iran’s defence with a perfectly weighted pass, sending Moses Simon through on goal.

The winger, earning his 96th cap, kept his cool to slot home and gave Nigeria a dream start.

The Super Eagles controlled much of the first half but couldn’t add to their lead before the break.

After halftime, Chelle shuffled his pack, handing a debut to Emmanuel Fernandez, and the impact was immediate.

Six minutes into the second half, reigning African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman turned provider, threading a clever pass to Akor Adams, who finished with composure to double Nigeria’s advantage.

Debutant Chibuike Nwaiwu also got his moment, coming on as Chelle continued to test his depth.

But Iran weren’t done yet. Midway through the half, Mehdi Taremi pulled one back, setting up a tense finale.

Nigeria, however, showed maturity beyond a team still in transition. With fresh legs introduced, including Paul Onuachu, Chidera Ejuke, and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, the Eagles managed the game smartly, closing out a deserved win.

It marks only Nigeria’s second victory over Iran, adding to their 1998 Carlsberg Cup success, while banishing memories of the goalless draw at the 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Next up, the Super Eagles faces Jordan on March 31 which is another chance for Chelle’s evolving side to sharpen its edge ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.
