Defending champions Pakistan Alfred and Augustine Okuro stamped their authority once again, but it was Harrison Onovwiomogbohwo’s breakthrough moment that lit up Day 4 of the Governor Douye Diri Wrestling Classics in Yenagoa.

Alfred, representing NSCDC, was untouchable in the 67kg Greco-Roman division, powering through a round-robin field with clinical dominance to retain his crown.

Not to be outdone, Delta State’s powerhouse Okuro bulldozed his way to back-to-back gold in the 130kg class, dispatching all opponents by technical superiority in a commanding display.

But the loudest cheers belonged to Bayelsa’s own Onovwiomogbohwo.

The freestyle specialist made a bold switch to Greco-Roman and it paid off instantly.

In a statement performance, he dethroned Nigeria Army’s Tobechukwu Udeh to clinch his maiden gold in the 97kg category, announcing himself as a new force in the division.

Bayelsa State’s dominance was undeniable, finishing top of the Greco-Roman medal standings with an impressive eight-medal haul (four gold, one silver, three bronze).

Delta State followed in second with two gold and a bronze, underlining their strength in the heavier categories.

Elsewhere, standout performances came across the weight classes:

★ Ogidi Peredeiaha (55kg) and Terry Godfred (63kg) added to Bayelsa’s gold rush
★ Dick Enibode (60kg) flew the Edo flag high
★ Oke Ituru (77kg) delivered gold for Delta
★ Matthew Godstime (72kg) kept Bayelsa firmly in control

As the competition intensifies, the Classics continues to deliver drama, dominance, and emerging stars, proof that Nigerian wrestling remains a battleground of grit and rising greatness.
