AFC sets April dates to complete West Region ACL Elite ties in Jeddah, two days before finals KO

The AFC has re-scheduled its West Region club competition knockout matches that were suspended in March when the US and Israel began their war on Iran and the Iranians responded with attacks on Gulf states.

Originally scheduled as two leg ties, matches in the AFC Champions League Elite 2025/26 Round of 16 West Region will now be centralised in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and played as single leg ties.

The West Region ties will take place on April 13 and 14 at the King Abdullah Sports City and the Prince Abdullah Al Faisal Sports City Stadium. This is just two days before the AFC Champions League Elite Finals Jeddah 2026, which are scheduled to be held from April 16 to 25.

The AFC’s rescheduling announcement comes as domestic leagues in the region tentatively start to return to play. Qatar suspended its domestic league in early March, but play has now restarted, however the restart was too late to save the cancelled the national team Qatar Festival of Football that included the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina.

In the AFC Champions League Elite, the West Region still has to qualify four teams for the quarter finals.

Ties to be played in Jeddah are:

Shabab Al Ahli (UAE) vs Tractor FC (Iran)

Al Duhail (Qatar) vs Al Ahli (Saudi Arabia)

Al Wahda (UAE) vs Al Ittihad (Saudi Arabia)

Al Sadd (Qatar) vs Al Hilal (Saudi Arabia)

While the West Zone ties were on hold, the AFC’s East Zone did complete its Round of 16 fixtures which saw three Japanese teams – Sanfrecce Hiroshim, Vissel Kobe and FC Machida Zelvia – qualify alongside Buriram United of Thailand who beat Melbourne City on penalties. South Korean clubs FC Seoul and Gangwon FC both lost to Japanese opposition.

The AFC said its Champions League Two 2025/26 and AFC Challenge League 2025/26 single-leg Quarter-finals and Semi-finals will be held on April 19 and 22 at centralised venues to be announced.
