Alcaraz blitzes Fils to storm Doha and extend winning run
Carlos Alcaraz delivered a masterclass in controlled destruction on Saturday, dismantling Arthur Fils 6-2, 6-1 to capture the Qatar Open title in ruthless fashion.
It took just over 50 minutes.
That was all the world No. 1 needed to slice through the 40th-ranked Frenchman and clinch the 26th title of his already glittering career.
From the first thunderous forehand to the final whipped winner, Alcaraz was untouchable, sharp, explosive, and utterly relentless.
Fresh off his triumph at the Australian Open earlier this month, where he completed a career Grand Slam at just 22, the Spaniard showed no signs of slowing down.
Doha was his first outing since Melbourne, and he tore through the draw without blinking, stretching his match-winning streak to 12.
Fils arrived in the final riding a wave of confidence after impressive wins over top-10 seeds Jakub Mensik and Jiri Lehecka. But against Alcaraz at full throttle, the fairytale ran into a brick wall.
The Frenchman had moments, flashes of the power that carried him through the week, but Alcaraz absorbed, countered, and punished. Breaks came early. Pressure never lifted.
The contest was effectively over before it had truly begun.
For Alcaraz, it was another statement victory and it was cold, clinical, and commanding. For the rest of the tour, the message from Doha was unmistakable.
The king of the new generation isn’t just winning, he’s overwhelming.
