The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has set plans in motion to strengthen the Black Stars’ technical team as preparations gather momentum for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to kick off in June across Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Communication Director of the GFA, Henry Asante Twum, disclosed that discussions are already ongoing to bring in additional technical personnel to support head coach Otto Addo and his crew.

The move follows recommendations made by Addo shortly after Ghana sealed qualification for the global showpiece.

“There are also plans to strengthen the technical team, which is very known, is one of the recommendations that the coach made immediately after our qualification, and that discussion is also ongoing,” Asante Twum said in an interview with Luv FM.

According to the GFA spokesperson, official announcements on new additions to the Black Stars’ backroom staff will be made in the coming weeks as part of a comprehensive strategy to ensure the team is fully prepared for the tournament.

“Very soon, we shall announce new hands that will be joining us for the World Cup,” he added. “A lot is being done, but the interesting thing in football is that everything you do behind the scenes is not recognized until the team lines up on the pitch to play.”

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign on June 17 with a Group match against Panama in Toronto, a fixture that will mark the Black Stars’ first appearance at the tournament since qualifying.

Asante Twum emphasized that preparations will continue steadily in the months leading up to the opener, with the aim of getting the squad into peak condition.

“From now until June 17, when we line up for our first match in Toronto against Panama, we will continue to work to make the team better,” he said.

As part of their build-up, the Black Stars are scheduled to play high-profile international friendlies against Austria and Germany in March, tests that are expected to fine-tune the team ahead of the World Cup challenge.

With structural improvements underway and competitive matches lined up, Ghana is hoping to arrive on the world stage well-equipped to make a strong impression in 2026.
