French middle-distance runner Fleury handed six-month ban for betting offence

...German athletes Henrik Janssen and Steven Richter get three-month ban

French middle-distance runner Aurore Fleury has been suspended for six months by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) after breaching anti-betting regulations, the watchdog confirmed.

Fleury was also fined $3,500, an amount the AIU said will be donated to charity.

In its ruling, the AIU reiterated that betting rules strictly prohibit all “applicable persons” from placing bets on any athletics event, regardless of level or location.

The regulations are designed to protect the integrity of the sport and prevent conflicts of interest that could undermine fair competition.

Fleury’s sanction was the most severe among a trio of recent betting-related cases announced by the AIU.

German athletes Henrik Janssen and Steven Richter were each handed three-month suspensions after being found guilty of similar violations of the betting rules.

The AIU stressed that it will continue to enforce a zero-tolerance approach to betting offences, warning athletes and support personnel that even short-term or seemingly minor breaches can carry significant consequences.

The latest sanctions serve as another reminder of the importance of integrity and transparency in global athletics.
