Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Björkegren has boldly declared Ghana’s readiness to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, expressing strong belief in his team ahead of a demanding qualification campaign.

Ghana will battle for a ticket to the global showpiece via the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), which will be hosted in Morocco later this year. Drawn in Group D, the Black Queens will face stern opposition from Cameroon, Cape Verde and Mali in the race for progression.

Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the semifinalists at WAFCON earning automatic qualification to the Women’s World Cup, set to be staged in Brazil.

Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV, the Swedish tactician left no room for doubt about his ambition, insisting qualification is a realistic target for Ghana.

“Yes, we will qualify for the World Cup,” Björkegren said. “If you don’t believe that you will make it, there is no need to give it a try. It will not be easy, and we all know that, but in football, everything can happen.”

He acknowledged the competitive nature of African women’s football, noting that many teams are closely matched despite differing styles and tactical approaches.

“There are so many teams that are close to each other in Africa and on a similar level, but a little bit different in style of play and approach,” he explained. “You can have a bad day, but hopefully, we will not.”

Björkegren also assured fans that preparation will be a major priority for his squad heading into the tournament.

“I can guarantee that we will be fit and prepared, and we will be ready for the tournament,” he added.

The Black Queens head into the upcoming WAFCON with confidence, having won a bronze medal under Björkegren’s guidance at the last edition of the competition, also held in Morocco—an achievement that has further strengthened belief in the team’s World Cup ambitions.
