Nasarawa United blast back to the top with emphatic win at home
By Maxwell Kumoye with additional report by Eche Amos
Nasarawa United roared back to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League with a commanding 3–0 demolition of El-Kanemi Warriors on Sunday at the Lafia City Stadium, delivering a performance that sent a clear message to the chasing pack.
Last season’s golden boot king, Anas Yusuf, was once again the star of the show. The clinical forward broke the deadlock in the 38th minute from the penalty spot, calmly sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to give the Solid Miners a deserved lead at break.
Barely a minute after the interval, Anas doubled the advantage, this time pouncing on a sloppy defensive blunder to tuck in his second of the day and his sixth of the campaign. Lafia erupted; El-Kanemi staggered.
Then came the flourish.
Teenage prodigy Garba Mohammed, showing confidence far beyond his years, sealed the victory with a composed, classy finish to make it 3–0, his third goal of the season and one that capped a dominant evening for the hosts.
With the win, Nasarawa United climbed back to the top of the NPFL table, sitting on 27 points from 14 matches, three clear of second-placed Ikorodu City, who still have a game in hand.
Next up is a tricky road trip to Ozoro to face 8th-placed Warri Wolves, but confidence in the camp of the Solid Minners is sky-high.
