In a bold move to strengthen sports development and ignite campus spirit, the Nasarawa State Government has handed over a massive consignment of sports kits to the Federal University of Lafia (FU-Lafia), reaffirming its drive to nurture young athletic talent across the State.

The presentation, made on Tuesday through the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, featured an impressive array of equipment, from football and basketball jerseys to volleyballs, goalpost nets, spike shoes, badminton sets, and field accessories, all aimed at transforming FU-Lafia’s sports scene.

Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Honourable Kwanta Yakubu, represented by the Ministry’s Head of Public Relations, Mr. Eche Amos, he described the gesture as a clear demonstration of Governor Abdullahi Sule’s passion for youth empowerment and sporting excellence.

“His Excellency approved the funds with the vision of giving our young athletes an identity, a sense of pride and confidence to compete and win,” Yakubu said.

He added that the move aligns with the State Government’s broader strategy to discover and project Nasarawa talents to the national and global stage while deepening the culture of sports excellence within tertiary institutions.

Receiving the items, FU-Lafia Vice Chancellor, Professor Shehu Abdulrahman, praised Governor Sule and the Ministry’s leadership for what he described as “a tangible investment in the future of youth development.”

“This is more than a donation, it’s a statement that Nasarawa believes in its young people,” the VC remarked, assuring that the equipment would be put to optimal use to boost the University’s competitiveness in upcoming championships.

The University’s Director of Sports, Dr. Isa Ozegya Mohammed, also expressed gratitude to both the State Government and the University management for their unwavering support, pledging renewed commitment to excellence.

The ceremony drew the presence of senior University officials, including:

• Professor Ilemona Adofu
• Dr. Ezekiel Obuje
• Dr. Abdulkareem Alhassan

The event ended with a symbolic handover and photo session that sealed the partnership.

With this gesture, the Nasarawa State Government has once again underlined its resolve to make sports not just a pastime, but a powerful platform for education, unity, and empowerment.
