Team Nigeria Clinches 32 Medals at 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships
Team Nigeria concluded their campaign at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships with an impressive haul of 32 medals, finishing third overall at the three-day continental event held at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The young Nigerian contingent secured 10 gold, alongside several silver and bronze medals, placing behind Senegal and host nation Ghana, who finished first and second respectively.
Senegal emerged overall champions with 31 medals, including 11 gold, while Ghana’s 12-member junior team claimed 43 medals to take second place, matching Nigeria’s gold tally of 10.
In the junior individual awards, Benin’s Lonnah Eliane Douillet was named Best Female Swimmer after dominating seven medals (six gold). Ghana’s Lea El Haj placed second with five medals (three gold), while compatriot Jada Yankey took third after winning 11 medals (two gold).
Nigeria’s Aidan Dumuje-Abilli emerged as Best Male Junior Swimmer, securing eight medals, including six gold. He was followed by Senegal’s Nael Lamine Vision with seven medals (four gold) and Ghana’s Kal-El Ntiamoah, who picked up five medals (two gold).
In the senior category, Ghana dominated with 26 medals (13 gold, 7 silver, 6 bronze), while Senegal placed second with 36 medals (12 gold), and Benin finished third with 8 medals.
Senegal’s Oumy Diop was crowned Best Female Senior Swimmer after bagging 11 medals, nine of them gold, followed by Ghana’s Joselle Mensah with five medals (three gold) and Gabon’s Noelie Lacour with 11 medals (one gold).
Ghana’s Harry Stacey won the Best Male Senior Swimmer title after an outstanding performance that earned him six medals (five gold). Benin’s Alexis Kpade followed with six medals (four gold), while Ghana’s Abeku Jackson came third with five medals (four gold).
The 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships, which ran from October 3 to 5, featured athletes from 16 countries across West and Central Africa. This year marked Ghana’s second consecutive time hosting the prestigious event at the Borteyman Sports Complex.
The championship also served as an official qualifying meet for the 2026 World Aquatics Swimming Championships scheduled to hold in Beijing, China.
