Ekweremadu appoints Okorie as Chairman, inaugurates Enugu State Athletics Board

The Enugu State Commissioner for Sports, Lyode Ike Ekweremadu, has inaugurated a new 11-member Enugu State Athletics Association board, with former national hurdler and current Performance Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Victor Okorie, appointed as Chairman.
The inauguration, which marks a new phase in the state’s athletics administration, brings together seasoned coaches, administrators, and sports enthusiasts dedicated to reviving grassroots athletics across Enugu State.

In a congratulatory message, Coach Chukwuashi lauded the appointment, describing it as a positive step toward repositioning athletics in the state.
She wished the new board success as they embarked on what she called “a selfless journey of service to the growth of sports in Enugu and beyond.”
In his acceptance speech, Okorie thanked Commissioner Ekweremadu for the opportunity to serve, pledging that the board will work tirelessly to raise the standard of athletics in the state.
“We will do our utmost to justify the confidence reposed in us and ensure Enugu regains its rightful place in Nigerian athletics,” Okorie said.
A respected figure in sports development, Okorie has been instrumental in nurturing young talents and promoting athletics in the South East.
His appointment, according to the Sports Commissioner, underscores the government’s confidence in his track record and commitment to preparing Enugu’s athletics team for upcoming national competitions, including the National Sports Festival.
