Commodore Shettima Mohammed of the Nigerian Navy has been elected as the new President of the Nigerian Shooting Sport Federation (NSSF), following a keenly contested by-election held in Abuja on Saturday.

Mohammed defeated the incumbent president, Captain O.B. Ayoade—also of the Nigerian Navy—after polling eight votes to Ayoade’s five out of a total of fourteen votes cast.

The by-election was conducted under the supervision of the National Sports Commission (NSC) after a series of previous ties in earlier attempts to elect the Federation’s new leadership.

The NSC is expected to inaugurate the newly elected NSSF Board alongside other sports federation boards whose elections have been successfully concluded.

The election took place at the Handball Indoor Hall, Package B, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
