The Executive Director, Sports Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission, (ESSC), Mrs. Sabina Chikere, on Tuesday, assured the sports loving people of Edo State of Team Edo' determination to claim the top spot on the medals table at the ongoing 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.

She stated that Team Edo sensational outing so far, could not have been possible with out the undivided support of the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

She gave this affirmation in an exclusive interview with FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG's Oluwatobiloba Zeal-Adepetu Kumoye in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The centre of excellence and aquatic splendor, Team Lagos heads the medals table with:
★ 20 gold
★ 9 silver 
★ 6 bronze 

Team Edo is in second place with 
★ 17 gold
★ 6 silver
★ 6 bronze 

Akwa Ibom sits in third place with 
★ 5 gold
★ 2 bronze 

While hosts Delta is in fourth place with 
★ 4 gold
★ 7 silver 
★ 11 bronze 

The Edo State Sports Director, expressed satisfaction in the team performance adding that the goal of the 'Heartbeat of the Nation', for members of Team Edo, doesn't end here in Asaba, as the ESSC will continue to nurture these athletes till they reach their fullest potential.

On Day 4 of the games at the St. Patrick’s Technical College field, the Edo Female Rugby 7s team delivered a thrilling performance, clinching gold after a hard-fought 7–5 victory over host state Delta in a tension-soaked final. 

Edo Male Rugby 7s Team powered through to Bronze, defeating Abia State convincingly 17–0. In the final match, Kano State stunned Delta with a 12–0 win to grab the gold in the male category.

In aquatics, Edo State finished strong behind Lagos, who clinched gold in the boys’ 200m freestyle, leaving Edo to proudly secure silver.

The handball clash between Team Edo and Team Ondo ended in a stalemate, with both sides locked at 14 goals apiece after an intense contest.

However, Edo’s volleyball team fell short, losing 2–0 to the host state, Delta.

Meanwhile, in the Ayo mixed doubles, Edo’s youthful pair, Osayi Edemakiota and Msughsha Aondohemba, emerged silver medalists, with Lagos taking gold and FCT clinching bronze.
