Team Edo reaffirmed its dominance in youth sports in Nigeria on Day 5 of the ongoing 9th National Youth Games securing 14 medals on Tuesday in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Aquatics proved to be the perfect mining spot for Team Edo on Day 5, as Ayemi Lucky stormed to gold in the 50m breaststroke (female) category, while Tissa Precious had earlier claimed the top spot in the 100m freestyle (male) event.

In Taekwondo Team Edo claimed a gold medal in the girls -46kg category as Precious Akpan brushed aside competitors from Abia, Osun, and Ogun.

On the cricket pitch, Edo’s male T20 team displayed superb teamwork and tactical brilliance to secure another gold, extending the state’s golden streak.

The athletics track witnessed yet another highlight as Sunday Davwi proved unstoppable in the men’s 1500 meters, pulling away from the pack to claim gold in commanding fashion.

In Judo, Miracle Hope bagged gold in the 45kg male category, Jigawa clinched Silver, while Abia got Bronze. In the 40kg female category, Delta secured gold, Abia (silver), and Edo (bronze).

Meanwhile, Okechukwu Samuel delivered an impressive ride in the men’s individual time trial cycling event but narrowly missed the top prize, settling for silver behind Lagos, while Rivers secured bronze.

Traditional wrestling (Kokowa) brought more cheer with Sarah Ogiemwonyi clinching bronze in the 45–50kg (female) category. Delta won gold, while Bayelsa took silver.

In badminton, Joy Archibong showed class and speed, cruising past her Sokoto State opponent to reach the round of 32. 

Edo also made the podium in darts (501 Female Doubles), where the pair of Osasu Ognomwan and Favour Christopher earned bronze, as Bayelsa and Plateau took gold and silver respectively, with Lagos sharing the bronze spot. 

In the, 4 ×100m Mixed Relay Finals, Delta got gold, River clinched silver and Edo secured bronze.

With more events ahead, Team Edo will return to action on Day 6, looking to sustain its momentum and continue its determined march toward overall victory at the Games.
