Juventus inaugurate Hall of Fame with Platini, Baggio and Zidane inducted
Serie A giants Juventus officially inaugurated their very own Hall of Fame this week at the Juventus Museum, giving La Vecchia Signora a permanent home.
The ceremony in Turin had all the pomp and pageantry you’d expect. President Gianluca Ferrero and museum head Paolo Garimberti unveiled a project that is equal parts a history lesson and marketing masterstroke.
The inaugural class is nothing short of a who’s who of the greatest players to ever don the black and white stripes, Gian Luigi Buffon, Alessandro Del Piero, Michel Platini, Zindine Zidane, Dino Zoff, David Trezeguet, and of course, Roberto Baggio. Fifty names in total, each etched into the black-and-white tapestry of the club.
Juventus, by taking this step, are opening the door for other European giants to follow suit, making an idea which is commonplace in the USA perhaps take off on the other side of the pond.
Garimberti said: “The Juventus Museum has always been the home of our fans, of our present, and of our future. This is because innovation is in the DNA of the Museum, with new ideas and new initiatives. For us, the Hall of Fame is the right way to celebrate Juventus’ champions, because it goes beyond the numerical criteria that until now had inspired the section dedicated to the ‘centenary shirts,’ and is instead based on a meritocratic principle, worthy of those who have written our history.”
For Juve, the Hall of Fame is more than nostalgia. It’s about brand building, fan involvement, and creating a living project where supporters will vote on future inductees.
The Americans may have written the book on the Hall of Fame. But in Europe, Juventus is now penning a new, exciting chapter.
