Honourable Isiaka commends SWAN for excellent coverage of NYG, NSF

The Commissioner for Sports, Ogun State Sports Ministry, Honourable Wasiu, on Thursday, showered praises on the Sports Writers Association Nigeria, for its coverage of the ongoing 9th National Youth Games, and the recently concluded National Sports Festival, held in the art and cultural city of Abeokuta.

Honourable Isiaka described SWAN's coverage of the two national sports feasts as excellent and flawless.

He made this known during the SWAN convention held at the media center of the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba the Delta State capital, adding that the value of journalists in the growth of sports in Nigeria, cannot be overemphasized.

The commissioner further emphasized the need for SWAN to be recognized and rewarded for its unshaken and undeniable support towards projecting Sports in the country.

Honourable called on SWAN to support the Ogun State Sports Ministry under his focused and forward-looking leadership, as he transforms the home of art and cultural excellence, Ogun State into the center of sports in Nigeria.

He stressed that the transformation is ongoing with the upgrade of the once hagged-looking MKO Abiola Stadium, into an ultramodern Sports Complex, which hosted the:

★ NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL:
The 22nd National Sports Festival, proved to the best Sports Festival ever held in Nigeria, the Giants of Africa, with up-to-date facilities, and a brand-new and tartan track, which placed Ogun State in the frontlines to host the continent at the:

★ CAA U-18/U-20 CHAMPIONSHIPS:
The biggest age-grade athletics championship on the continent, was held in Abeokuta, with spotless and impeccable organization, on short notice, leaving the CAA and WA leadership elated with the high level of organization.

★ In a series of back-to-back major achievements by the State, under Isiaka's stewardship, the state provided the facilities for the Super Falcons of Nigeria to train ahead of their historic outing at the Women's Africa Cup of Nation's, winning the title for the tenth time.

★ Currently, the champion of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Remo Stars are using the MKO Abiola Stadium,Kuto, Abeokuta as their home ground for all domestic football.

He further explained that with the support of the Governor of Ogun State, His Excellency, Prince Dapo Abiodun, more transformation is taking place in Ogun State.

Honourable Isiaka stated that sports development is the main focus of the sports ministry and bringing sports to schools, in the Gateway state, has their goal come to fruition.

He called on other states of the federation to watch for Team Ogun at the next National Youth, as Ogun State Sports Ministry is nurturing a new set of champions to represent them come next year.

In the area of education and wellness of athletes, the Commissioner stressed that they are effectively fussing sports and academics and regular medical testing and check up for all athletes under their stable at the well equipped Federal Medical Centre Abeokuta.

Hammer thrower Falana vows to rule Africa

It’s a medal within reach for the young Gabonese hammer thrower who was selected to represent her country at the CAA U-18/20 Championship, holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria. The 18-year-old who broke into the international stage a year ago at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, added that she is looking to revive the spirit of unity, commitment and collaboration — to back rising athletes in Africa. Springsoca United Academy kicks off new season with intensive training

The management of the football Academy stated that participants in the U-13 Teams will now train twice weekly, while U-15 Teams and older will engage in three weekly sessions.
