Former Naval Intelligence Officer and AFN Technical Director, Nesiama to head NOC Technical and Development Commission

Quintessential sports administrator, Retired Navy Commodore Omatseye Oscar Nesiama, has been named as the chairman of the reconstituted Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Technical and Development Commission.
The President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee Engineer Habu Gumel, said the appointment of Nesiama, a retired army general is in recognition of his wealth of experience and his outstanding contribution to Nigerian Sports as well as the Olympic Movement.
The NOC Boss went on to state that, “It is therefore hoped that you would bring to bear your expertise and experience in achieving the goals of your Commission and the NOC in
general.
Members of the NOC Technical
and Development Commission (TDC), were carefully selected among a host of seasoned and accomplished sports administrators from different backgrounds and bias to form a strategic team.
Babatunde Ogunade, one of the most successful chairman of Lagos State Basketball Association who is a member of the highly esteemed and prestigious University of Lagos Sports Hall of Fame as well as Africa Sports Hall of Fame is also a member of the new look NOC Technical
and Development Commission.
Dr. Kweku Tandoh, a man who has midwife a good number of local and international sports events and competitions is also listed in the Commission that has received positive review by stakeholders in the country.
Commodore Nesiama, an internationally recognised World Athletics and Confederation of Africa Athletics technical official has since started this new assignment which is aimed at reshaping Nigeria's ailling Sports and Sports Federations that is currently being micro managed by the National Sports Commission (NSC).
Commodore Nesiama, a former Technical Director of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria stated: “Our focus will be to carry out engagements with the federations and other stakeholders in order to properly understand and have an alignment between the NSC strategic performance and the NOC operational performance strategies and pathways.”
Nesiama, a former Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence, further explained that his new task will require total dedication by other members of the Technical and Development Commission.
“This would require a workshop/clinic where the Podium Performance Team and the Federations Technical Departments would work together to forge an understanding. Our Commission would be that of facilitating cohesion in the planning and execution of these programmes.”
TECHNICAL COMMITTEE TERMS OF REFERENCE
✓ Review of applications by National Federations seeking recognition from the NOC and making recommendations, as appropriate to the Executive Committee and
Executive Board
✓ Liaise through the NOC with the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development in monitoring of Nigerian athletes in camp and ensuring that their wellbeing is
adequately catered for, especially in preparation for international multi-sports games, such as the Olympics, Commonwealth and the African Games
✓ Organise Seminars, Workshops or training for the benefit of National Federations - Coaches, technical personnel and athletes, to keep abreast with global changes in
sports
✓ Assist National Federations in drafting their own statutes/ constitutions and by-laws,
ensuring that such statutes comply with their International Federation statutes or bylaws as well as the Olympic Charter
✓ Produce a Code of Conduct for athletes, to be adopted by National Federations and ratified by NOC Executive Board
✓ Undertake any other assignment as may be assigned by the Executive Board in the interest in sports development in Nigeria
✓ Liaise with the NOC Secretariat on planning and implementation of programmes and activities of the Commission
✓ Submit quarterly reports on the activities of your Commission to the NOC Secretariat for proper update of the Executive Committee and the Board
