Barcelona make final push for September re-opening of Spotify Camp Nou

FC Barcelona are pressing ahead with plans to reopen the Spotify Camp Nou in time for their La Liga match against Valencia on the weekend of 13-14 September.

According to Mundo Deportivo, club executives met on Monday with representatives from the Barcelona City Council as they continue to pursue “Plan A”, which would see them return to their home ground and admit around 27,000 supporters.

Barcelona have already obtained the final works certificate for the main stand (Tribuna) and the South Goal (Gol Sur), with approval signed off by surveyors, project managers and construction company Limak.

Council members are due to visit the stadium on Tuesday to inspect the works and check requirements for the first occupancy licence, which is needed before fans can attend.

A decision is also required soon for the European competition. On Thursday, August 28, the Champions League group-stage draw takes place, and Barcelona must confirm to UEFA which stadium they will use until at least mid-February.

UEFA regulations demand that the lateral stand be open for television coverage. In this first phase of the reopening, only the main stand and the South Goal would be available.

If approval is not granted in time, Barcelona may use two stadiums: La Liga matches at the Camp Nou and Champions League games at the Estadi Lluis Companys in Montjuic. An agreement is already in place to play at Montjuic until February, with no concerts scheduled there until May.

Municipal sources have acknowledged the option of a temporary return to Montjuic but insist this remains “Plan B”. For now, Barcelona continues to push “Plan A”, with the coming days set to determine if a September return to the Camp Nou is possible.
