Players and officials of one of the 2025 finalists of the Federation Cup - Kwara United Football Club are smiling from ear to ear because their outstanding match allowances and bonuses have been settled ahead of the crucial game.
The State Government under the stewardship of His Excellency, Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, approved the payment and disbursement of their outstanding match allowances and bonuses before the team left for Lagos for the final of the President Federation Cup.
Kwara United have a date to keep with Abakaliki United of Ebonyi State in the final scheduled to hold at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Lagos State, South-West, Nigeria on the 28th of this month.
Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Sports Commission (KSSC), Mallam Bolakale Adisa Mogaji, has charged the players, technical crew, and management of team to go all out and win the 2025 Federation Cup final for the state.
Mallam Mogaji, urged the team at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbowl, George Agbazika Innih Sports Complex, Ilorin shortly before their departure for Lagos, the city of aquatic splendor.
Besides settling their allowances and bonuses, Mallam Mogaji pledged an additional ₦500,000 reward for the team if they lift the trophy, in appreciation for the Governor’s unwavering investment in sports.
In order to drum up support for the Afonja Warriors, Mogaji, a former national number one squash player in Nigeria stated that the Sports Commission would provide three buses to transport supporters from Kwara State to Lagos.
200 branded T-shirts will be distributed to fans traveling from Kwara, as well as to supporters residing in Lagos, to create a lively and united atmosphere during the game.
The Chairman of Kwara United Football Club, Mr. Kunbi Titiloye, stressed that the Sports Commission and the supporters of the club has fulfilled all financial obligations to the players.
In another development, a key member of Kwara United, forward, Wasiu Alalade, says the team is fully prepared for the historic President Federation Cup final against Abakaliki FC on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the MJ Arena in Lagos.
Speaking with the club’s media team after a light training session at the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos on Saturday, Alalade, who is currently the highest goal scorer in this year’s competition, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and determination to make history.
“We are in Lagos to make history and make our supporters proud,” Alalade stated, assuring football-loving Kwarans of the team's commitment to delivering glory to the state.
He also used the opportunity to dismiss rumours regarding his absence from the squad, confirming his full presence and participantion on the task ahead.
Saturday's training session was led by head coach Tunde Sanni, who stated that all players are in good shape and fully focused, ready to fire on all cylinders in the highly anticipated final.
