Edo State Sports Commission Boss Honourable Enabulele backs National Scrabble Festival

One of the proactive and forward looking sports bodies in Nigeria, the Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), says they are fully backing the biggest scrabble event in the country, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation Festival going on at the Florence Hotel and Suites, Benin City, Edo State, South South, Nigeria.
The Executive Chairman of ESSC, Honourable, Amadin Desmond Enabulele made this known in a chat with the Organizers of the Festival, the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSF), in Benin City.
The Executive Chairman of ESSC, Honourable, Amadin Desmond Enabulele, explained that the Sports Commission is working with various Sports Associations, including the Scrabble Federation, to fast track the development of sports and help secure the future of the teaming youth population in the State and Nigeria.
Honourable, Enabulele, a very passionate and dynamic sports administrator strongly believes that sports has the capacity to enhance Nigeria's economy growth and development.
“And that's why we supporting the various initiatives aimed at driving sports in Nigeria to the right direction,” he stated.
It's noteworthy to mention that since the board of the Edo State Sports Commission under the stewardship of Honourable Amadin Desmond Enabulele was put in place late last year, he has used his vast business knowledge, experience and connectivities to reshape the Commission and reposition sports in Edo State.
At the just concluded Niger Delta Sports Festival, Team Edo finished on the podium and Enabulele, stressed that, the glad tidings of Edo State Sports is back.
The choice of the venue and arrangements for a smooth running for the Scrabble Festival is a very strong indication the the Edo State Sports Commission wants the mind sport to blossom.
Head of the Local Organizing Committee of the Festival, Bright Idahosa, told journalists at the venue of the competition, that all the needed logistics and funding for a sporting feast of this magnitude has been graciously and generously provided by the Edo State Sports Commission and the Commission is willing to do more for scrabble both at the State and National level.
Edo State born George Ezinore is currently Africa's number two scrabble player.
Meanwhile, head coach of the national scrabble team, Prince Anthony Ikolo has described the ongoing Asaph Zadok National Championship as very competitive.
Ikolo, explained that the top Masters players are delivering the right words that keeps them in the hurt for the NSF Green Jacket.
However, African champion Oluwatimilehin Doko is struggling to catch up with the pacesetters, the man who came second in Kigali, George Ezinore, Samuel Adebola, former Green Jacket winner, Dipo Akanbi, 2024 South South champion, John Aiyedun and the winner of Dexdee Special Retreat, Larry Etuwa.
Former winner of South West Closed Championship, Cyril Umebiye, Victor Isawe, NSF South West Zonal Youth Coordinator, Joseph Okere, Abdulmumin Jimoh, Friday Ogbonyomi, Sunday Oshodi, Dokun Esan, one time winners of Lekki Classics, Timi Olaitan and Oamar Adebowole are part of the long list of the chasing group.
Nigeria's reigning Scrabble Amazon, Bukunmi Afolayan is the highest ranked female player after 20 rounds of games with 10 wins and an equal number of defeats at number 18 with a cumulative of 192 points.
The team title is straight a three horse battle among, Ogun State, defending champions Lagos and host Edo State. The Federal Capital Territory and Rivers are not far off. Oyo State are first from the rear.
