As the much expected Gombe Inter-secondary School Athletics Championships gets underway on Tuesday at the Pantani Stadium,

The sponsor of the event, Honourable Amend Shuaibu Gara Gombe says his passion and zeal for sports sponsorship is not self-centred

Honourable Amend Shuaibu Gara Gombe, came out with this on Monday in Gombe State ahead of the opening ceremony of the 2025 Gombe Inter Secondary Schools Athletics Competition.

"My sports sponsorship is borne out of interest and not personal gains. I began helping those in sports when I was Young. I played football, not at professional level, my passion to assist talented youths to excel is totally and truthfully based on national interest."

The press conference was also attended by athletes and football stakeholders as the draw for the principal Cup which runs alongside the Athletics Championships was made.

The football trophies and athletics medals were also unveiled at the conference.

A host of activities have been lined up for the opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Meanwhile stakeholders commended Honourable Ahmed Shuaibu Gara Gombe for his loyalty to Gombe State in attracting and hosting the Championship in the State.

Hammer thrower Falana vows to rule Africa

It’s a medal within reach for the young Gabonese hammer thrower who was selected to represent her country at the CAA U-18/20 Championship, holding in Abeokuta, Ogun State, South-West, Nigeria. The 18-year-old who broke into the international stage a year ago at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, added that she is looking to revive the spirit of unity, commitment and collaboration — to back rising athletes in Africa.
