Gombe Secondary Schools Athletics Meet gold medallist, Danladi, eyes African record

The winner of the 1500m event in the U-20 junior category at the ongoing Gombe State Inter-Secondary Schools Athletics Championship, Lame Danladi has set his sight on break Africa Games record in the distance.

In a post race interview with sports journalists at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe, Danladi, who also won gold and silver for Gombe State at the 2023 MTN Athletics Championship in Jos, explained that, with adequate preparations, he was confident of achieving the feat in the next five years.

Besides, Danladi, a Senior Secondary School (SSS) 3 student of Diocesan High School, Gombe, said he was also ready to represent Gombe State at the forthcoming National Sports Festival zonal elimination later in 2025.

The SSS 3 student, who named Jamaican sprint legend, Usain Bolt as his model, explained that he has been training in the past three months for the one week athletics competition.

Danladi,has some pleasant words for his parents for supporting his athletics career. He appealed to Gombe State Government to support athletes in the State to prepare for zonal and national sports competitions.

“I have been preparing for this competition in the last three months and winning the gold medal in the 1500m is well deserved.

”It is my dream to represent Gombe State at the National Sports Festival. I have represented the State in the last two editions of the National Youth Games, in which I won a bronze medal.

“I believe that I can compete on the national stage and my target now is to represent Team Gombe in the forthcoming National Sports Festival,” he said.
