NOC-Kenya targets equal exposure for federations ahead of LA 2028

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-Kenya) says it is working closely with the country’s sports federations and government to ensure equal exposure and a clear qualification pathway for Kenyan athletes ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The Committee's President Shadrack Maluki Kitili said its focus is to ensure that athletes from all federations participate in the various qualifier events listed on their respective international calendars, giving them the opportunity to earn the points required to qualify for LA 2028.

“We are working closely with all the federations to ensure that they get equal exposure. By equal exposure, we mean ensuring that all the federations are on the pathway to qualification for LA 2028,” Shadrack Maluki Kitili said.

According to the Committee, collaboration with the government and the respective federations will be crucial in ensuring that Kenya is represented across multiple sports at the Los Angeles Games.

The NOC-Kenya also commended Kenya’s Ministry of Sports and Creative Economy led by Honourable Salim Mvurya, for its efforts to establish sports academies across the country.

The academies are being developed in collaboration with the National Olympic Committee as part of a long-term strategy to identify, nurture and develop young sporting talent.

The initiative is expected to provide a sustainable pathway for school-going children with sporting potential, allowing them to be identified early and trained to international standards.

“When we scout talent, nurture and develop it, we are doing it to international standards,” Maluki Kitili stated.

The National Olympic Committee of Kenya stressed that its ambition goes beyond simply sending athletes to international competitions. 

The ultimate objective, it said, is to develop athletes capable of competing successfully against the world’s best.

Through sustained collaboration between the government, NOC-Kenya and the various sports federations, Kenya hopes to build a stronger pipeline of talent and improve its competitiveness on the international stage, particularly at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
