Bayern Munich beat Borussia Dortmund to win German Supercup

Bayern Munich began the new season with silverware after defeating Borussia Dortmund 2-1 on Saturday to lift the German Supercup, with Michael Olise playing a decisive role in the champions’ victory.

The reigning Bundesliga and German Cup winners produced a dominant first-half display and established a two-goal advantage before Dortmund fought back after the interval.

Bayern opened the scoring in the 28th minute when new signing Nathaniel Brown marked his competitive debut for the club in impressive fashion. The defender unleashed a powerful strike after being set up by Olise, giving Bayern the breakthrough.

Olise then turned from creator to goalscorer deep into first-half stoppage time, doubling Bayern’s advantage and putting the visitors firmly in control heading into the break.

Dortmund responded with greater urgency in the second half and eventually pulled one goal back in the 75th minute. A rapid three-pass attacking move opened up the Bayern defence, allowing Fabio Silva to finish calmly and reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser late in the contest, but Bayern held firm to secure their first trophy of the campaign.

Dortmund’s hopes of completing the comeback were further damaged in the 90th minute when Ramy Bensebaini was shown a straight red card for a foul on Bayern substitute Ismael Saibari.

With the Bundesliga season set to begin in a week, Bayern will take confidence from a strong opening performance, while Dortmund will be left to reflect on a missed opportunity in front of their home supporters.

Olise’s goal and assist ultimately proved decisive as Bayern added another trophy to their collection and sent an early warning ahead of the new domestic campaign.
