Goncalo Ramos struck a dramatic stoppage-time winner as Portugal came from behind to defeat Croatia and book their place in the last 16 of the FIFA World Cup.

With extra time looming, Ramos emerged as the hero in the 94th minute, rising above two Croatia defenders to power home a superb cross from Rafael Leao and seal a thrilling victory.

Earlier in the contest, Cristiano Ronaldo had drawn Portugal level with his first-ever goal in a FIFA World Cup knockout match, adding another milestone to his illustrious career and setting the stage for the late drama.

The pulsating encounter looked destined for an additional 30 minutes before Ramos delivered the decisive blow, ensuring Portugal advanced to the knockout phase in dramatic fashion.

Portugal will now face European champions Spain in a blockbuster last-16 clash at Dallas Stadium, Texas, on Monday, July 6, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.
