Salah leads Egypt's World Cup charge as Hassan unveils final squad

Egypt head coach Hossam Hassan has named Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah in his final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with the Pharaohs set to begin their campaign in North America next month.

As expected, Salah will spearhead Egypt's quest for global glory, while Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush is also expected to play a key role in the team's attacking plans.

The squad announcement featured few surprises, although the inclusion of teenage striker Hamza Abdel Karim has generated considerable excitement among Egyptian football followers.

The 18-year-old forward, currently on loan from Egyptian powerhouse Al Ahly to Barcelona Atletic, the reserve team of Spanish champions Barcelona, earned a place in the final squad after impressing with his development and potential.

Hassan's selection reflects a blend of experience and youthful promise as Egypt seeks to make a strong impression at the tournament.

The Pharaohs have been drawn in Group G alongside Belgium, New Zealand and Iran, with their opening fixture scheduled against Belgium on June 15 in Seattle.

Before the tournament kicks off, Egypt will fine-tune preparations with a high-profile friendly against Brazil on June 6 in Ohio.

Salah arrives at the World Cup as Egypt's undisputed leader and one of the continent's most influential footballers. 

The Liverpool winger is expected to provide both inspiration and attacking quality as the seven-time African champions chase a memorable run on the world stage.

Marmoush, who enjoyed a productive season with Manchester City, scoring eight goals in 36 appearances, is tipped to form a dangerous partnership with Salah in attack.

The squad also boasts experienced campaigners such as goalkeeper Mohamed El-Shenawy, defender Mohamed Abdelmonem, midfielder Mahmoud Hassan "Trezeguet" and the versatile Ahmed Mostafa "Zizo".

Young talents including Ibrahim Adel, Haitham Hassan and Abdel Karim will be hoping to make their mark at football's biggest tournament.

With a balanced squad combining established stars and emerging prospects, Egypt will be aiming to advance from a challenging group and restore their status among the world's leading football nations.
