Lagos set for war of words as Scrabble Mania 4.0 unveils $700 top prize

Lagos is set to host a battle of words, wit, and world-class strategy as Mind Brilliance Inc., in partnership with the Nigeria Scrabble Federation (NSC), rolls out the fourth edition of the highly anticipated Scrabble Mania tournament.
Tagged Scrabble Mania 4.0 (Naija Edition), the competition will take place on May 16–17, 2026, at the iconic Chevron Recreation Centre, Gbagada, Lagos, drawing top scrabble minds from across the Nigeria and beyond.
With a mouthwatering $700 star prize on the line, the tournament promises intense competition across two divisions.
Division A will feature elite players rated 1400 and above, while Division B opens the floor to emerging talents with ratings below 1400, creating a balanced mix of experience and rising stars.
The event will be played over 21 electric rounds, with each player battling the clock under a 20-minute time control, ensuring fast-paced, high-pressure encounters.
Official ratings will be recognized under WESPA, PANASA, and NSF, reinforcing the tournament’s credibility on both continental and global stages.
Entry fees have been pegged at ₦40,000 for Division A and ₦20,000 for Division B, signaling a serious, high-stakes contest for committed competitors.
The tournament will adopt the CSW24 lexicon, aligning with international scrabble standards and testing players’ vocabulary depth and tactical precision.
As registration races toward the May 13 deadline, anticipation continues to build for what has become one of Africa's standout scrabble events.
With Lagos once again at the heart of the action, Scrabble Mania 4.0 is more than a tournament, it’s a celebration of intellect, competition, and the enduring appeal of the mindgame.
One of Africa's finest wordsmiths Abdulmumin Jimoh is the winner of Scrabble Mania 3.0 decided at the Boulevard Palace, Monrovia the Liberian capital.
Jimoh recorded 26 wins, 4 losses, and a monstrous +2612 spread, underscoring his dominance of the tournament.
Lukeman Owolabi was a distant second with 20 wins and a cumulative points spread of 1520 while Ghana’s Charles Tachie Menson and defending champion edge out Nigeria’s Cyriel Umebiye on cumulative points spread to complete the top 3.
