High Jump Gold Medal, the tip of the iceberg — Delta State' Oddo Melvin

Delta State high jumper, Oddo Melvin, has promised to deliver stunning performances in the coming months, stating that his gold medal display at the ongoing Niger Delta Games was just a scratch on the surface.
  
The jumper cleared a commanding 1.95m to win the gold at the Niger Delta Games, Rivers State' Bright Godson took the Silver with a 1.90m jump, while Christian Edet of Akwa Ibom walked away the bronze medal after taking down 1.85m.
 
Oddo admitted to feelings of anxiety as he participated in the Men's High Jump Final, explained that he wanted to set a new personal best at this event but it didn't come to fruition.
 
“It was Great. I was a little bit scared, but it was great. I was expecting to jump higher, maybe like 2.05 or 2.10 but unfortunately it didn't happen. But I will try again in the coming weeks and months.”
 
“After the Games, the plan is to go back, train harder and of course try again.”
 
Oddo Melvin who explained that his performance was negatively affected by the absence of his friend and teammate, promised to do his best to meet the qualifying standards for the Youth Olympics.
 
“My friend was not here, so it was bad that my friend wasn't here. That was the reason why I was even feeling down and the rest, so I wasn't focused on my performance or position so much. But I promise to do better, to keep performing and improving and to hit the World Junior standard.”
 
The Delta State born athlete, concluded by encouraged youths to try out high jump, pointing out it simplicity. “A lot of people think that the high jump is kinda hard, but trust me it is one of the easiest athletics event. You just have to put your mind to it and you'll get it.”
