Morocco flexes continental muscle as AFCON 2025 countdown untensifies

Morocco has fired a loud signal across Africa, AFCON 2025 will be nothing short of a continental masterpiece.

On Tuesday, December 2, the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and head of the local organizing committee, Fouzi Lekjaa, rolled out the red carpet for African ambassadors at the majestic Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maâmora—the heartbeat of Morocco’s football revolution.

In a meeting that felt more like a continental briefing than a courtesy visit, Lekjaa delivered a detailed progress report that dripped with conviction. Backed by what he called the “clear vision and directives” of King Mohammed VI, Lekjaa declared that Morocco is not merely preparing to host AFCON 2025, it is preparing to unite Africa through football.

“This tournament will be a victory for the whole continent,” Lekjaa emphasized, positioning AFCON 2025 as both a sporting festival and a diplomatic milestone.

The ambassadors nodded with visible satisfaction. They commended Morocco’s speed, precision, and coordination, hallmarks that have become synonymous with the kingdom’s sports infrastructure boom. From Rabat to Casablanca, Tangier to Fez, the stadiums are gleaming; the highways stretch smoother; and hospitality facilities are primed to welcome an avalanche of fans.

To tighten the circle even further, Lekjaa announced a new communication and coordination unit, a direct bridge between the organizing committee and African diplomatic missions. Its role? To crush every logistical hurdle before it even appears—travel, accommodation, team services, you name it.

Morocco’s confidence is no surprise. After hosting global-scale tournaments like the FIFA Club World Cup and the African Nations Championship, the country has mastered the art of delivering football on the big stage.

Now, all eyes turn to December 21, when AFCON returns to Morocco for the first time since 1988. With millions of viewers expected and tourism set for a major boost, the kingdom is preparing not just to stage a tournament, but to cement its status as Africa’s footballing capital.

Lekjaa closed the meeting with a message that reverberated far beyond Maâmora:

“AFCON 2025 is Africa’s tournament. Morocco is only the host, Africa is the owner.”

The continent is watching. Morocco says it is ready. The countdown begins.
