ANFASSC storms Uyo as Rivers United gear up for must-win clash against Moroccan giant

Rivers United will not be walking alone today (Friday) as the group stage of the CAF Champions League enters Day 2.

With their CAF Champions League hopes on the line, the Pride of Rivers are set for a fierce Group Stage clash against Moroccan giants RS Berkane at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium and the Authentic Nigeria Football and Allied Sports Supporters Club (ANFASSC) has ensured the stadium will roar in their favour.

In a massive show of solidarity, hundreds of ANFASSC members swept into Akwa Ibom in a colourful, thunderous convoy, turning Uyo into a rallying point for Nigerian club football. Drums, trumpets, flags and unflinching belief, all deployed to power Rivers United’s continental charge.

ANFASSC National President, Prince Abayomi Ogunjimi, saluted Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Chris Green, for what he called “exceptional coordination and support” in the club’s quest to revive their Champions League run after a tough opening-day loss to Pyramids FC.

“ANFASSC stands firmly behind Rivers United,” Ogunjimi declared. “We believe in their talent and fighting spirit. With Chris Green’s support and our voices behind them, the players will feel our presence every second of this match.”

Rivers United enters the fixture as Nigeria’s first NPFL side in years to break into the Champions League group stage, a spot they earned after a dramatic home comeback against Mozambique’s Black Bulls. But after a bruising 3–0 defeat to Pyramids FC, Friday’s clash has become a statement game.

The supporters, however, are unfazed.

To them, Uyo is the fortress where Rivers United must rise, and the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Nigeria’s CAF-approved fortress — is expected to erupt with patriotic energy.

ANFASSC has now thrown open a nationwide call, urging Nigerian football lovers and Rivers United fans across the world to stand up, sing loud, and rally the Pride of Rivers back into the fight for continental glory.

Friday evening will be loud.
Friday evening will be emotional.
And if ANFASSC has its way, Friday evening will be Rivers United’s resurgence.
