Delegates, stakeholders arrive Accra, ahead of FIBA Africa 3x3 Tour

The first set of delegates have began arriving in Accra, the Ghanian capital, ahead of the highly anticipated FIBA Africa Zone III 3x3 Tour, scheduled to tip off on Thursday, September 25 and end on the 27th, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium.
 
The first set of arrivals are in the Black Star of Africa –Ghana, on the bill of events management and sports marketing company, Dreals Paris.
 
The renowned 3x3 basketball promotion outfit launched in 2018, is partnering with FIBA Africa Zone III to host this year’s tour. 
 
The high-power delegation from Dreals Paris is led by Meye Aloumon, who is in charge of Communication, Marketing and Sponsoring.

Other members of the team include:

★ Jamil Rouissi - Speaker
★ Jean-Marc Aloumon - Head of the Organization

Speaking ahead of the event, which is open to clubs and national teams from the eight national federations that make up Zone III, Chief Executive Officer, Dreals Paris, Jean Marc Aloumon, emphasized the importance of grassroots development and the growing popularity of the 3x3 format.

“The tour in Accra is another way of bringing 3x3 closer to the grassroots and to further popularize it,” Aloumon said.
  
“This partnership with FIBA Africa Zone III is one that we really appreciate, and we look forward to more tours to promote and involve more players. As you know, 3x3 is now an Olympic sport and Africa has the talent to compete at the highest level if given the right opportunities.”

Aloumon, who has led a campaign to promote 3x3 basketball across Africa since 2019, reiterated his belief in the continent’s potential during the 2022 Guinea Tour. At the time, he stressed that there is no reason Africa shouldn’t be strongly represented at the Olympic Games.

“The 3x3 Tour is a quest for Africa. It is aimed at getting an African team on the World Tour and exploring how best we can professionalize the game of 3x3 in Africa,” he concluded.

This year’s tour is also supported by Festac Africa Renaissance, which is providing accommodation for participating teams. The partnership aims not only to support the sporting event but also to promote the rich and diverse cultural heritage of Africa.
 
The 3x3 basketball tournament is one of the sporting highlights on the sidelines of FESTAC Africa – a Pan-African festival that champions African culture, trade, health, tourism, diplomacy, climate action, and gender equity in pursuit of sustainable development.

With growing enthusiasm from across West Africa, the FESTAC Africa 3x3 Tour promises to be a vibrant showcase of basketball talent and Pan-African unity.

The FIBA Africa Zone III 3x3 Tour promises exciting competition and a step forward in elevating African basketball onto the global stage.
 
In a bid to provide the highest level of officiating at the upcoming 3x3 Basketball Tour, the President of FIBA Africa Zone III, retired Colonel Samuel Ahmedu is organising a specialized 3×3 Referees Clinic.

The 3×3 Referees Clinic which will be organised in partnership with Dreals Paris is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium, on Wednesday, 24th September, 2025. 

During the 1-day clinic referees will be equipped with the latest officiating knowledge and practical tools essential for the fast-paced 3x3 basketball format.

Twelve referees, from the eight countries in the Zone are expected to participate.

Leading the training will be Joseph Mayo Botele, an elite 3x3 referee with over a decade of experience from the French Basketball Federation.

Originally from Cameroon, Botele brings a wealth of international expertise and a passion for developing refereeing talent across Africa.

“This clinic is not only about learning the rules,” said Botele. “It’s about building confidence, consistency, and excellence in officiating to help Africa shine on the global basketball stage.”

The referees trained during the clinic will go on to officiate games at the 3x3 Tour during the upcoming Festac Festival, where they will put their newly acquired skills into action.
 
Also in Accra are the the three teams from Benin Republic, one from Cote d'Ivoire and one from Burkina Faso. Other teams expected on Wednesday are Nigeria, Togo, Liberia and Niger.
