Team Nasarawa impress with early medal haul at National Youth Games

Team Nasarawa made a resounding start to their campaign at the 2025 National Youth Games (NYG), thrilling the thousands of sports lovers, fans and enthusiasts at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, the Delta State capital, South-South, Nigeria.
 
Their energetic march past and optimism during the opening ceremony of the annual multi-sports event was the first of their early wins at the tournament that is now in it's 9th edition.
 
The Nasarawa State contingent to the Delta State capital as secured wins on other fronts, bagging three bronze medals.

In the Karate sport event, Magdalene Inji won bronze medal in the girls -47kg category. Her feat was soon replicated by compatriot, Alexander Otuma in the boys 50kg.

Chineye Agbo topped up the bronze medal tally with one more Gold, after beating off FCT Abuja counterpart in the +47kg Karate kumite girls event, on Saturday.

In Football, Team Nasarawa took strength from their impressive Zonal Eliminations' run as they shocked hosts, Team Delta, by a lone goal courtesy of Miracle Oshala, in their opening match, at the Saint Patrick's Football Pitch, Asaba, on Saturday.

The State's Football Team have a date to keep with the ballers from Yobe State on Sunday, before wrapping up their group's activities on Monday, to confirm qualification to the knockout phase of the competition.

As the days unfold, Nasarawa State representatives are poised to make a lasting impact at the competition reserved exclusively for athletes below the age of 15, by improving on their medals' achievements.

It will interest you to know that, Nasarawa State's 278-member delegation, left Lafia, the State capital for Delta State, last Tuesday.
 
The sizable delegation included athletes and sports secretaries, as well as a host of accompanying referees and officials and will be featuring in 22 sporting events.

Over six thousand athletes and coaches are currently in Asaba, Delta State, for the two weeks of sporting excellence.
 
The Games will climax on Sunday, the 7th September, 2025.
