8th Lagos International Badminton Classic sets up exciting weekend in Lagos

The 2025 edition of the Lagos International Badminton Classic is set to thrill sport lovers, enthusiasts and fans alike as the tournament which is in its 8th year is set to coat the city of Aquatic Splendor with some the purest vibes in the sporting firmament.
The event which is proudly hosted by the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), in collaboration with the Badminton World Federation (BWF), is scheduled to take place at the Teslim Balogun Indoor Sports Hall, Surulere, Lagos, South-South, Nigeria, from the 27th to 30th of this month.
The Lagos International Badminton Classic, sanctioned by the World Governing Body, the BWF, has grown into one of Africa’s premium badminton competitions, offering athletes from across the globe a vital opportunity to earn ranking points toward World Championships and Olympic Games qualification.
This year’s edition promises to be the most competitive in the history of the event, as over 120 Players from 31 countries across Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Americas are confirmed to participate.
Players from India, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, France, USA, Canada, Saudi Arabia, France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Egypt along a host of other countries make the Classic’ a truly global affair.
The tournament which continues to solidify Nigeria’s reputation as a leader in hosting world-class sporting events, is set to serve up some the finest bits of badminton excellence with four days of high-intensity showdowns filled with speed, strategy, and skill in the heart of the nation’s economic capital, Lagos.
The tournament also reflects a shared commitment to advancing sports development and promoting youth engagement.
In a related development, the President, Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, Esq, spoke on the significance of the tournament, emphasizing that the Classics puts the country on the map and is key in the discovery of emerging talents.
“The Lagos International Badminton Classic is a cornerstone of Nigeria’s international sports calendar. Beyond competition, it provides our athletes with global exposure while positioning Lagos as a key destination for badminton development on the continent. We are excited to welcome the world once again.”
