Yusuf Alli charges Edo Queens to bring glory, honour to Edo, Nigeria from Morocco

The Chairman, Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Yussuf Alli, has urged players of Edo Queens, that will be representing Nigeria at the 2024 CAF Women’s Champions League finals in Morocco to be good ambassadors of the state and country.

The ESSC Chief, gave this admonition to the team on Tuesday in Benin City, Edo State as they put finishing touches to their preparation before leaving for the Kingdom of Morocco on Thursday.

Yussuf Alli emphasized the need for team unity and determination while urging them to reflect on past victories and imploring the team to replicate their recent success in Cote D'Ivoire.

"Everything is in place for us to go to Morocco and conquer, just like we did in Cote D'Ivoire," the Chairman stated. 

He reassured the team of the state’s commitment, noting that arrangements for their travel and accommodation at the prestigious Ibis Hotel in Casablanca has been made for them. 

The chairman also explained that the players’ needs, including securing proper food provisions with assistance from the Nigerian embassy in Morocco, will not be an issue.

Yussuf Alli is confident in the team's ability to bring the trophy home. "We will come here with a cup. I'm dead sure that the cup is coming to Nigeria."

The head Coach of Edo Queens Moses Aduku and Captain Efemweokiekie Osakpolor also expressed their gratitude, saying they are determined to make both the state and chairman proud. 

Captain Efemweokiekie Osakpolor has this message for the fans, supporters and the State Government, "By the grace of God, we are going to make not just the state proud, but also make you proud as well." 

The chairman, Sports Writers Association, SWAN, Edo State, Comrade Kehinde Osagiede extended his appreciation to the Edo State government, noting that the team’s achievements have already made history by winning the female league and now advancing to the CAF Women's Champions League Finals.

"We applaud your dedication. Our wish is that this team will go far and bring the Women’s Champions League to Nigeria," he concluded.

Meanwhile, in line with the regulations for the CAF Women’s Champions League Morocco 2024, the eight participating clubs have finalized their squads for the tournament. 

Following a decision by the CAF Women’s Football Organising Committee, the clubs are permitted a final squad of 26 players instead of the initial 21 players. The registration of the five additional players on the final list is only an option and not an obligation.   
  
In addition, the deadline for submitting the final squads for the tournament was 30 October 2024, exactly ten (10) days before the opening match.  

A player in the final squad can only be replaced after a serious injury no less than 24 hours before the team’s first match following the approval of the medical certificate by the CAF Medical Committee. 

The final tournament will take place from 09 to 23 November 2024 in the cities of Casablanca and El Jadida.
