Paris mayor Emmanuel Grégoire has revealed that selling the Parc des Princes to Paris Saint-Germain is now the city's preferred option, signaling a major breakthrough in the long-running discussions over the future of the iconic stadium.
Speaking to BFM TV, Grégoire said the priority is to ensure that PSG remain at their historic home while gaining the freedom to invest in the venue's long-term development.
"My preferred option is to sell the stadium to the club, provided they commit substantial investment to ensure it matches their sporting ambitions," Grégoire said.
According to the mayor, discreet discussions have already begun between the city and the club, with both parties working towards a solution that would allow PSG to modernize and expand the Parc des Princes.
The proposed sale would hand the French champions full control of the stadium, enabling them to upgrade facilities, enhance infrastructure and transform the venue into one that reflects the club's growing stature on the global stage.
Grégoire emphasized that keeping PSG at the Parc des Princes remains a key objective, describing it as a shared ambition between the city and the club.
He also acknowledged that the city's willingness to consider a sale represents a significant shift after months of uncertainty over whether PSG might seek to relocate to a new stadium.
The mayor believes an agreement would deliver mutual benefits, with the city securing major investment in one of Paris' most important sporting landmarks while PSG gains the autonomy needed to pursue its long-term vision.
However, Grégoire stressed that any deal will depend on the club's ability to guarantee substantial financial investment in the stadium's redevelopment.
PSG have long argued that owning the Parc des Princes is essential to achieving their ambitions both domestically and in Europe.
After years of heavy investment in their squad and training facilities, securing ownership of the stadium would mark another significant step in strengthening their position among Europe's elite clubs.
