Nigeria has secured a significant presence in global archery administration after Mohammed Baba Abdullahi, President of the Nigeria Archery Federation, was appointed to the Commonwealth Games Committee of the international governing body, World Archery.

The appointment was confirmed by World Archery as part of five new additions to the committee, a move aimed at strengthening global representation and expertise ahead of future Commonwealth Games competitions.

Abdullahi, who also serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, is among a select group of administrators chosen by the World Archery Executive Board (WAEB) to help shape the sport's future within the Commonwealth Games movement.

World Archery Secretary General Raul Calin informed committee chairman Robert Fiddyment that the federation had finalized the committee's new composition.

Joining Abdullahi on the committee are Karl Balisch of Canada, Trina Roberts, Ainsley Ward of Scotland, and Virendra Sachdeva of India. Each member was selected to represent a different continent, bringing a broad range of international perspectives to the committee's work.

World Archery also confirmed that Juan Carlos Holgado will continue in his role as the federation's liaison staff member to the committee.

"We look forward to these individuals contributing to the activities on your committee," Calin stated, expressing confidence that the newly constituted body will help advance the development and integration of archery within the Commonwealth Games programme.

For Nigeria, Abdullahi's appointment represents another milestone in the country's growing influence within international sports administration.

His inclusion on the committee provides Nigerian archery with a stronger voice in discussions surrounding the sport's future at one of the world's major multi-sport events.

The appointments come at a pivotal period for World Archery as it continues efforts to secure and strengthen archery's place in future Commonwealth Games programmes, with the new committee expected to provide strategic guidance, technical expertise and governance oversight in the years ahead.
