Mbappe breaks France goal record in World Cup win over Senegal

France began their FIFA World Cup campaign in winning fashion as Kylian Mbappe etched his name into the history books with a record-breaking brace in a 3-1 victory over Senegal in New Jersey.
The Real Madrid star became France's all-time leading scorer, taking his tally to 58 international goals and moving one ahead of former record holder Olivier Giroud.
After a frustrating first half in which Senegal looked the more dangerous side, Mbappe finally broke the deadlock in the second period with a clinical low finish.
France then doubled their advantage through Bradley Barcola before Senegal gave themselves hope when Ibrahim Mbaye reduced the deficit.
However, Mbappe had the final say, unleashing a stunning long-range strike deep into stoppage time to seal the victory and secure all three points for Les Bleus.
Senegal's Lions of Teranga had threatened to upset the former world champions early on. Nicolas Jackson came closest when his powerful effort struck the base of the post and rebounded off goalkeeper Mike Maignan before rolling narrowly wide.
The African side also squandered a golden opportunity just before the break when Ismaila Sarr failed to direct his close-range effort on target after meeting a cross from Sadio Mane.
France improved significantly after the interval and were involved in a controversial moment when Mbappe went down inside the penalty area following a challenge from Mane.
Referee Alireza Faghani initially awarded a corner and, despite being advised by VAR to review the incident, maintained his decision after ruling that Mbappe had initiated the contact.
The decision ultimately had little impact on the outcome as France found their rhythm in the second half, with Mbappe leading the charge.
His historic double not only secured victory but also reinforced his status as one of the game's finest forwards, giving France the perfect start to their quest for World Cup glory.
