The race for the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership title has taken definitive shape after Matchday 17, with all six Super Six contenders now officially confirmed, setting the stage for a thrilling championship showdown.
In Group A, consistent performances ensured Bayelsa Queens, Rivers Angels, and Edo Queens secured their places among the elite.
The trio’s qualification also sealed the fate of teams at the bottom, confirming the relegation spots in the group.
Group B delivered its own drama, as FC Robo Queens finished top ahead of Nasarawa Amazons and Abia Angels, all of whom booked their Super Six tickets.
However, the fight for survival remains wide open, with two relegation spots still undecided heading into the final matchday.
The standout moment of the round came in Lafia, where Nasarawa Amazons underlined their pedigree with a stirring comeback victory.
The two-time champions showed grit and experience, overturning an early deficit to defeat Sunshine Queens 2-1.
Bibiana Odoh emerged the hero, netting a quickfire brace to seal qualification with a game to spare and reaffirm her side’s title ambitions.
Equally remarkable was the milestone achieved by Abia Angels, who etched their name into the league’s history books by reaching the Super Six for the very first time.
After narrowly missing out last season, they returned with renewed determination, overcoming stiff competition to claim a deserved spot among the league’s top contenders.
With the Super Six lineup now locked in, attention shifts to Matchday 18, where final standings and relegation battles will be decided.
