Power Dynamos eye historic double after securing MTN Super League title
By Trust Ittai
Fresh off clinching the MTN Super League title in dominant fashion, Power Dynamos have set their sights on completing a memorable domestic double, head coach Osward Mutapa has declared.
The Kitwe giants sealed back-to-back league triumphs over the weekend with a 2-1 victory against Konkola Blades, wrapping up the title with four matches still to play.
Sitting comfortably at the summit with 70 points after 31 rounds, Power Dynamos have once again underlined their supremacy in Zambian football.
With the league crown already secured, Mutapa says attention has now shifted to the ABSA Cup final, where his side will face a determined Red Arrows outfit.
“Winning the league was a big achievement for us, but the job is not done yet,” Mutapa said. “We are now fully focused on the ABSA Cup final. It will not be an easy match because Red Arrows are also pushing for a continental slot.”
Mutapa credited his team’s consistency throughout the campaign as the key factor behind their sustained dominance.
He also revealed plans to rotate the squad in the remaining league fixtures, offering opportunities to fringe players who have had limited game time this season.
“We have a strong squad, and this is the time to give other players a chance to show what they can do while we prepare for the cup final,” he added.
Power Dynamos Chief Executive Officer Gibson Chaloba praised the club’s internal structures and long-term planning for their continued success, noting that preparations for continental football are already underway.
“With the league secured, our focus will quickly turn to the CAF Champions League after the ABSA Cup,” Chaloba said.
“We are looking at using Arthur Davies Stadium for the preliminary rounds and will soon engage the Football Association of Zambia for the necessary assessments.”
Beyond the club, football analyst Yotam Mwanza has urged other teams in the league to learn from Power Dynamos’ model of success.
He emphasized the importance of strategic recruitment and squad quality as key ingredients for competing at the highest level.
“Clubs need to invest in quality players if they want to challenge consistently. Power Dynamos have shown what is possible with the right approach,” Mwanza noted.
Having wrapped up the league title in record time, Power Dynamos now stand on the brink of an even greater achievement as they chase cup glory to crown an already outstanding season.
